In Music, the requirements of the National Curriculum are taught by the class teacher and generally links to the topic being taught at that time. The children learn to develop an appreciation of music explaining what they like or dislike about a piece of music.
Throughout their school journey, children begin to explore music from different composers, musicians, cultures, traditions and periods of history.
Our younger children begin to explore pulse and rhythm and as they progress through the school and develop greater confidence, they begin to produce more complex rhythmic patterns with greater awareness of timbre and duration.
All the children during their time at school will experience playing the school’s large variety of un-tuned percussion instruments, as an accompaniment to singing and/ or in composition activities.
Regular music teaching of brass, woodwind and piano through the West Sussex music service is offered with lessons taking place within the school day. Click on the link here to find out more.
Regular singing takes place within class music lessons and children begin to learn how to use their voices creatively. On special occasions throughout the year the whole school will come together to perform songs for events such as Christmas Carols.
Our aim is to encourage pupils to perform confidently either as solo or part of a group ensemble. Teachers will promote a love of music and appreciation of many genres and performers.
